Attribute #11: Embody and Nurture Self-trust, Self-worth and Self-love

Explanation: To lead others effectively, one must first lead oneself and that stems from a deep understanding and cultivation of one's inner self. This approach emphasizes personal growth, self-awareness, and emotional intelligence as the cornerstones of leadership excellence.

Self-Trust is the foundation of confidence and resilience. It’s about believing in your ability to handle life’s challenges, make good decisions, and learn from mistakes because mistakes are really only lessons.

Self-Worth is the inherent belief that you are valuable and deserving of love, respect, and happiness simply because you exist. It’s a deep, unchanging understanding of your value, separate from achievements, others’ opinions, or external validation.

Self-Love is the active practice of caring for and appreciating yourself. Self-Love is the practice of caring for and nurturing one’ self, mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually.

Difference from Traditional Orthodoxy:

In traditional business orthodoxy, self-trust, self-worth, and self-love were often viewed through a more transactional and performance-driven lens, grounded in concepts such as work ethic, professionalism, and external validation. These ideas were typically framed in a way that emphasized personal sacrifice, results-oriented thinking, and adherence to societal or corporate norms. In contrast to modern, more holistic perspectives, traditional views were less focused on emotional well-being, personal growth, or self-compassion.

Key Question:

Does the corporate culture you are working in embrace, promote and facilitate emotional well-being, growth and personal development?

Practical Application:

Rate yourself on a 1-5 scale as to how present self-trust, self-worth and self-love are in your awareness. Identify the one you feel would make the biggest difference in your life if you were to have more attention on and using examples in our post, implement practices to support you in this area. Â
