Attribute #8: Calling, Purpose and Core ValuesĀ
Explanation: True north refers to a person's internal compass that guides them in life and leadership. It represents one's most deeply held beliefs, values, and principles. Your true north includes your calling, core values, purpose, and vision and leverages your unique gifts, skills, and talents. Definition of calling: a strong inner impulse toward a particular course of action especially when accompanied by conviction of divine influence.
Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart.Ā Ā -Carl Jung
Difference from Traditional Orthodoxy: People typically determine their path in life from their intellectual mind, thinking about what they like, are good at, or should do for their profession, and is often tied to how much money they can make doing it. People are influenced by family, mentors, friends, and societal norms or expectations.
Key Question: When you look back over your life, what were the subtle, common threads that have been present and possibly unnoticed or ignored that point to your calling?
Practical Application: Make a list of and discover your unique gifts, skills, and talents. Identify three to six core values that are non-negotiable for you in life. Working with a coach, your calling will become evident and you will create precise language illuminating your calling. Then create purpose and vision statements for your life around your calling.Ā
